Metallica, Amon Amarth, Bad Religion, Korpiklaani, Eluveitie, Finntroll, Dark Tranquillity, Blind Guardian, Nightwish, Epica, System of a Down, Tyr, Jelonek, Apocalyptica, Green Day, Jonathan Coulton, They Might Be Giants
stuff I don't own but like is TMBG, Gorillaz, Dresden Dolls, OK Go, Rob Zombie, Social D, Violent Femmes, Bad Religion, The Venture Bros soundtrack, Death Cab for Cutie, U2, The Police, Dave Brubeck, Cream, Miles Davis, Hendrix, The Who, ELO, The Transplants, Cage The Elephant, The Blues Brothers, Boston, All-American Rejects, Me First and the Gimme Gimmes, Queen, The Killers, Stray Cats, CCR, The Doors, Party Ben, Dean Gray...
I listen to a little of everything. Some of my favorites would probably be Rush, Nirvana, Tool, Radiohead, and the Protomen. As far as foreign stuff, I listen to a lot of anime OPs and EDs, anything by Yoko Kanno/the Seatbelts, etc. My favorite Japanese band is probably Bump of Chicken.
Is it the pseudo-pretentiousness that surrounds their lyrics?
Is it that they aren't good?
Because they are pathetic sounding (like drowning puppies), they are given way to much credit for their sound and I can't stand the crowd that likes them.
The only Radiohead album I like all the way through is OK Computer. There are some great songs on the other ones, but that's the one I tend to listen to the most.
But overall, I agree that their music can get a little grating sometimes. I'm not a big fan of depressing music, so I kinda have to be in the mood for it.
I'm not waaaaaay into Radiohead, but I find myself listening to them pretty often. Yeah, there is a certain pretentiousness to their stuff, but when you just want to chill out, their music is pretty damn soothing.
The Lonely Island makes some really fucking good music, regardless of whether is comedic or not. Probably NSFW depending on where you work. Ignore the lame "DJ" interruptions.
