  • I honestly couldn't tell you much.. I think Greeks came before Romans (though I thought they existed in the same time, and started at the same time... v.v; ) and I know Civil War was before WW1, then the ...the Vietnamese war, I believe comes next, then WW2, and..yeah... I think that's right. Oh, and the War of 1812. Which we (Canadians) totally won. =3 I loved researching that war, so I started doing it on my own time as well as class time.

Stupid thing: I only just started paying real close attention this year. I haven't gotten Social Studies (history/politics) yet this year either.

Civil war -> WWI -> Great Depression -> WWII -> Baby Boom -> Korea -> Vietnam.

Well the baby boom and Korea sorta were going on more or less at the same time.

  • Or, even more explicitly:

    American Civil War: 1861-1865
    The Great War: 1914-1918
    The Great Depression: 1928-1939 (Roughly)
    The Second World War: 1937-1945
    The Baby Boom: 1940s-1960s
    Korean War: 1950-1953
    Cuban Missile Crisis: 1962
    Vietnam War: 1965-1975
    Soviet Union Dissolves: 1991
  • Since I was slightly bored, here's some similar dates for antiquity, to help people keep their Greeks and Romans straight:

Old Kingdom of Egypt begins 2686 BCE
New Kingdom of Egypt begins 1570 BCE
    Homeric Greece, ~700 BCE
    Roman Republic founded, 509 BCE
    Battle of Thermopylae, 480 BCE
Death of Alexander the Great, 323 BCE
Roman Republic becomes Roman Empire (Julius Caesar is appointed perpetual dictator), 44 BCE
Fall of the western Roman Empire, 476 CE
Beginning of Viking raids, ~800 CE
Norman invasion of England, 1066 CE
European Rennaisance begins late 1300s CE
Turkish conquest of Constantinople, 1453 CE

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, children of all ages, nerds and geeks, flamers and channers:

I give you TimelineIndex.com, a site rivaled in its addictive clickability by only the wiki-wiki-Wikipedia.

  • I doubt most of the people I know know about the war of independence. I think this is mostly down to countries not wanting to teach children about wars they lost.
  • I think I just found something I hate more than preachy people...stupid preachy people.
  • Sherry Shephard is a comic, we ARE supposed to laugh at her.

No. I'm sick of this excuse. Ever since Andy Kaufman, people have been trying to say that whatever outrageous, stupid thing they say or do is all somehow "comedy" or "satire". Rush Limbaugh and Bill O'Reilly do that a lot. Say something stupid and get into trouble? Don't worry. Say it was "satire" or that you were "being ironic" and that the people who were outraged or thought you were stupid just aren't smart enough to get the joke. We have to stop allowing people to get away with this.

The difference is that Andy Kaufman was actually smart and he actually MEANT for the things he did to be jokes. The unfortunate Ms. Shepherd should not be allowed to hide behind comedy, satire, or irony. She's not that smart and you can see from the clips that she really believes what she's saying. She doesn't have enough talent to act that well.

I agree with you, she is not smart nor is she talented. Comparing her to Andy Kaufman is like comparing shit with gold; He is a comedic treasure, while she is just like any other pile of excrement that you avoid to step into but when someone else does you laugh and feel sorry for them afterwards. Stepped into her own pile of poo trying to prove how knowledgeable she was, I laughed.
