Ubuntu Problemo

edited October 2007 in Technology
I am trying to install Ubuntu to my desktop. Unfortunately, I can't pass go - when trying to load the live CD, this happens:

[ 38.837558] ..MP-BIOS bug: 8254 timer not connected to IO-APIC
[ 39.016288] Kernel panic - not syncing IO-APIC + timer doesn't work! Boot with apic=debug and send a report. Then try booting with 'noapic' option
[ 39.016337]

and hangs there.

Anybody know what this is? I am not sure what IO-APIC is so I am unsure if turning it off would be a problem, also not sure how to boot with alternate options.

System Info:
AMD Athalon 64 X2 Dual 2.41 GHz (but using 32 bit linux, 64 bit still kinda unreliable)
2GB Ram
NVidia GeForce 7600 GT
EPoX EP-MF570SLI motherboard (BIOS up to date)

How do I get to the boot parameters? I am a complete noob as far as linux goes, so I don't know my way around yet.

In the interest of learning, what is the IO-APIC anyway, so I know what I am doing instead of just copying commands.

    thanks, sorry I so clueless

Can you get to the first options list? First option saying "Start or Install Ubuntu Linux" one is "Check CD for errors" something along those lines. Just look at the screen, there should something saying "Boot parameters".

Google to your aid! Very first link. I'm not telling you. Just look at the first result Google shows.
