Although roboticist Ronald Arkin at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta does not think human-robot marriages will be legal anywhere by 2050, "anything's possible. And just because it's not legal doesn't mean people won't try it," he told LiveScience.
I think that's a bit more likely... though isn't this more or less the same level as bestiality? Or perhaps necrophilia as they aren't even alive?
Further this almost reminds me of a Simpson's episode where they're doing a spoof of documentary makers who checkup on people ever few years. and all the professions that he listed for the students involved robots in someway, including robosexual rights...

But they aren't dead either. It would be like using an extremely complex sex-toy, I'm guessing.
That's something I thought as well, but then I realised that they were in fact talking about marriages, not just something you play with till you meet a nice girl/guy. Though on the flip side at least with the bestiality you could prove that the robots at least don't not enjoy it...
Umm... Yeah... Unless the other person is alive it's just a glorified version of masturbation.
There's a lot to be said for glorified masturbation... an art form really.
Artistic right handery.
If people can simply program the right person for them and pick out what model they are sexually attracted to best then will be people just stop seeing the point of dating humans?
This is all reminding me of that episode of Futurama with the PSA of dating robots.
I can just see it now... Rym and Scott in the year 2050...
Rym: "He Scott, what's going on?" Scott: "Not too much, just un-crating my new sex-bot!" Rym: "No kidding? You found one that matches your shoes and purse?" Scott: "That joke stopped being funny 40 years ago." Rym: "Whatever. So, can I see it?" Scott: "Yeah sure, come on over."
20 minutes later at Scott's place.
Rym: "Hmm, that bot looks mighty familiar." Scott: "It should, I modeled it after your mom!!!" Rym: "Ah no, it looks like you modeled it after me!!!"

One could argue that, since an animal can't consent, sex with one could be considered animal rape. It's also kinda gross, but that's none of my damn business. I wouldn't give two shits if someone had sex with my dead body, on the other hand. Gross? Yes. My business? Still no.
I think it's interesting to think about AI reaching the level where it would be difficult to tell a computer apart from a human. What would the effect on morals be? Would we feel bad for 'killing' a robot? If robots reach the level where people would want to marry them, would we first have laws against killing robots? This stuff fascinates the shit out of me.

Rym runs screaming from the house.
(Viga's face is in a shocked state to the 2nd power)
Seems like something that belongs in "that" thread. Very hilarious though.

Interesting stuff there.

I think the final answer was, "man can accept an immortal robot in his midst but he can not accept an immortal man."
