  • This was a triumph.
I'm making a note here: HUGE SUCCESS!
    It's hard to overstate my satisfaction . . .
  • Aperture Science.
We do what we must, because we can.
For the good of all of us...

Ok, let's not start that, as tempting as it is ^^
  • Interesting short games.
  • So as far as Guitar Hero III sales went. I work at a Gamestop and they didn't really send us many Wii or PS3 versions. We got shit tons of 360 and ps2 though because those were the main systems it was reserved on. My store for instance got about 8 Wii 4 of which were reserve and the other four were gone before noon, we opened at 9. We definitely sold more 360 on release day, which was sunday, then ps2. Anyway as far as the issue with people complaining about the wii version. We got about half of the people who bought the Wii version calling to tell us they weren't intelligent enough to troubleshoot the situation themselves. It's kinda sad when someone who has never seen the Wii guitar setup explain how to make it work to someone who is fucking holding it. This is all based off of sunday since i haven't worked there since then.

Oh and just a bit of a side note. If anyone trades things in and will ever be trading in Guitar Hero III Wii version. you need to trade the guitar with it.
  • So, is the Guitar for the wii just a regular guitar with a spot to plug in the wii remote for wireless game play? Do you use the Wii Remote itself during game play?

You don't push any buttons on the Wiimote during gameplay. However, the Wiimote being in the guitar provides rumble, speaker, and star power detection.

In regards to the stickers, yes most of them do suck. However, when I went to the midnight release with my roommates because we have nothing better to do in college, they gave out another sticker sheet which has this awesome sticker on it:

Mine has STILL not arrived from RedOctane :( It's KILLING me. My buddy got his and that guitar is amazing. It's super silent and you could kill a fucking bear with it it's so heavy.

PS Rym: Less talk more Rokk is half the song Ready to Rokk is. :)

  • I can't wait to see the numbers on GH3 and see the PS2 version outsell all the others combined.

Any bets on how quickly GH3 knocks Halo3 out of the top spot for this quarter?

    Wait for holidays.
  • Portal has surpassed so many great games throughout time. It has rekindled feelings I forgot existed, for I haven't experienced them since the arcade I go to tossed out that 4 TV X-men arcade game.

I think though that I may be the only person in existence who actually felt anger and disgust when presented with the companion cube.

My friends all seem to swoon if either the words companion or cube are said in actual conversation. I just don't get those fealings... and whats worse is I don't even know why.

I don't think I hate it because everyone else loves it, I'm not that kind of person. I just remember once introduced to it, I thought it was stupid and creepy. AND of course once I stated my opinion, unaware to the worlds "correct" opinion, I was flamed to all oblivion. (So I’m glad I got burned, think of all the things we learned For the people who are still alive)
  • I have to agree. I enjoyed Portal a great deal, and half the fu is going back and trying to muck with things in a different manner. In fact, there is one point in the game that involves a vent high off the ground that leads to a fan, and Rym, Scott, and myself had three seperate ways of getting through it. I sincerely hope they do more with this game.

It was also freakin halarious. That computer is possibly one of the best things Valve has ever created.
  • I can say, without shame, that when I got to the end of the last portal "experiment" I punched the air and had the feeling that I had done something amazing and unique.
Portal - Game of the year.
  • Portal - Game of the year.

    Could not agree more.
  • The advanced stuff is a little tricky. I worked on advanced 17 for maybe an hour or two until I looked up the specific section I was stuck on. I think I've heard the phrase "now you're thinking with portals" in the marketing for this game, and it became very clear at that point what they meant. It really is a good exercise in lateral thinking. I don't really care whether or not the portal gun is in future versions of Half-Life - I'll pay money for additional mission packs to portal.

Regarding Burning Wheel, it is very heartening to hear of your success. My wife and I will be running The Sword a couple times tonight for separate chunks of our role-playing group. Saturday, we'll be at Ubercon playing the Arthurian Burning Wheel game. Next Wednesday, we'll run The Gift with all our players at once. The Wednesday after that will be the Great Burning, in which we get our regular characters burnt and get ready for the Real Deal™.

Yeah, we were going to go to Ubercon, but now we're probably not going to. It's an hour further away from us this time, and we aren't going to get in free.

However, we don't often go to conventions, so this seemed like a good chance to be around some kindred spirits while exposing ourselves to some more experienced BW-ers.
  • I'm not sure if this has been mentioned before. Someone made a short flash based version of portal. It's only 40 episodes, but still a rather useful game never-less. Took me a day or so to work through them all. Personally I preferred playing it full screen which just requires changing the web address from .htm to .swf.

Thanks! I was wanting a bit more portal again (I only rented it before) and I have to say this is a reasonable substitute for the time being. Made it through the first 30 levels in about an hour or so...pretty much as enjoyable as the real thing as far as puzzle solving...it needs the hilarious computer though. And cake.

  • Ah, cake.

If you'll excuse me, I'll be assuming the Party Escort position now.
  • Portal is definitely game of the year right now, the only thing I think could possibly take it away would be Mass Effect.

There is cake. And as for the computer, it's definitely toned down, but there are those little blurbs beforehand.
  • They are making a Weighted Companion Cube toy. I want one so badly.

So I have a question about the storyline of Portal: **Spoiler Start**

I remember going into some of the "screening areas" where others could look in through a glass and watch you. However, those screening areas and all areas outside the testing area were always empty. So I would assume that either you were meant to get out into those areas (as there are markings from other subject's who made it out), or the computer had taken over and possibly killed or run out all the scientists in the laboratory like in Paranoia. What do you guys think?

    ***Spoiler End***

Spoiler: She tells you that she gassed the whole place and killed everyone when you confront her.
  • Spoiler'd: Was I the only person that had expected to meet the guy who wrote on the walls? (e.g., the cake is a lie, "HELP!", exit and 'over here' signs post-flamepit...)  I think that would have made a great addition to the plot.  Maybe integrate this into Portal 2?  It could be done.

So I have a question about the storyline of Portal:

    *insert spoilers here*
SPOILER START: Yes, they (the developers) wanted you to get in those (few) rooms. Play the game with the commentary, they'll explain that. Either way, even with the morality core GLaDOS is evil. So she/it probably chased away the scientists when she was able to manage everything without human interaction. That, or all the employees who worked there died because of old age, and no new scientists joined the team due to bad stories about Aperture Science. Remember, it's in the Half-life 2 universe, which is in the future with all sorts of nifty technology. SPOILER END.

Weighted Companion Cube toy. Oh yeah!

    @ WaterIsPoison:
SPOILER START: Who installed the morality core then? The one she/it drops so that she can gas you to death.SPOILER END.

@WaterIsPoison + Nineless: Nineless is correct. Someone installed the morality core after she gassed everyone. I think that this all takes place at night or on the weekend when no one is there and GLaDOS performed the experiment of her own accord.

  • Not Portal but I just found this horribly lame attempt at a TF2 tip guide link. Bad spelling and all.
  • I'm working on a TF2 Nub Guide myself on a site I work on... I think it'll turn out a little better than "A Scout is two people when capping"
