Victim of MySpace hoax commits suicide (and there's a twist)
A 13 year old girl committed suicide after she found out that a heated online relationship was faked. My initial response is that the hoax seemed cruel, but - ultimately - it was up to the parents to monitor their child, who was obviously emotionally fragile. However, in reading further, it seem that the hoax was perpetrated by the mother of a former friend of the girl; she apparently was trying deliberately to mess with the kid's head. If you read through the whole article, I think you'll be surprised at how far it went (allegedly). The authorities say this isn't a criminal matter, but it seems to me that a wrongful death lawsuit might be in order. Any opinions on the matter?
