People seem to have a lot of misconceptions about pesticides and fertilizers in general. I blame the schools mostly. I remember being young and learning all about the horrible dangers of DDT as a lesson in the mistakes of our past. Then, when I was older, I actually learned about DDT, and how much of the controversy around it was fabricated.
The primary danger of pesticides and fertilizers seems to be in its use by private homeowners on their lawns, where it is barely regulated, as opposed to agribusiness, where it is fairly stringently controlled.
Whatever harm DDT may cause, it's less bad the Malaria. They should use DDT in Africa to get rid of Malaria. Beyond that, I don't care so much about this issue.
