Venezuelan students rally against Chavez

Is anyone on the boards from Venezuela? If so can you provide some information on what is going on down there?

Some students who favor his constitutional overhaul said they are particular fans of one measure that would give students and university workers the power to choose school administrators by direct vote.
As much as I would have liked that measure when I was a student I don't see how that would be beneficial (in the long run) if school administrators are forced to become political animals just to keep their jobs!

From what I see in the media it looks like conservative students are marching against a socialist state (the opposite of the American 60's). Chavez is trying to become the dictator in chief and all I see is ruin ahead for the Venezuelan people.

Communism and socialism are great ideas but they simply can not work outside of a tight-knit social group. These two ideas work great in a family setting (where capitalism is a bad idea) but they do not work on the larger scales.

In order for communism and socialism to work ALL members of the group need something to bind them together so that they will act in the best interests of everyone and not just themselves.

With capitalism you do put your own interests front and center but you also have to allow for the interests of others or you will fail. A free market does not care about you, make a good product at a good price and you will win. Make a good product at a bad price and you will lose.

It's people like Chavez who give third world countries a bad name. when he went after the oil companies (after they invested and built-up the infrastructure) I think it sent a shock wave through the foreign investors. It also sent a message, "if your investment becomes too profitable we will confiscate it."
