DS game suggestions for me mum

edited December 2007 in Video Games
Alright, so my mom told me she wanted a DS for Christmas, so a DS I shall get her. What games do you guys think a fifty year old woman would like to play? I'm already going to get her Brain Age because that's the only game she has stated that she was interested in.

  • Nintendogs? Cooking mama?
  • If she likes Brain Age, definitely pick up Brain Age 2. Also, Picross is pretty damn fun and addicting. There are other "brain" type games like Big Brain Academy or Flash Focus, although I haven't played either.

If she was into those Yahoo games, Diner Dash or Collapse wouldn't be a bad idea.

    But, above all: Tetris.

    EDIT: Damn, was not fast enough to get in my answer thanks to looking at another thread before posting in this one. XD;;

But yes, Brain Age, its sequel, and Cooking Mama are good choices, definitely. Maybe MySims or something similar to that, since those types of games seem to have wide appeal (can't vouch for the DS Sims games myself, not having played them). I might also recommend Lost in Blue 1 or 2 (I like 2 better than 1, personally). But that's less of a sure bet than the other games mentioned so far. I just know that my mom's interest was piqued when I told her I had a "survive on a deserted island" game.

  • My mom plays Poker, Mario, Tetris and Brain Age. Also Nintendogs.
  • Clubhouse Games
  • New York Times Crossword's, and Scrabble aren't bad.
  • New Super Mario Bross.
  • Definitely Clubhouse Games! Especially if there is another DS around. It is great for quick pickup games, and it does wifi play incredibly well.
  • I've in the same boat. I'm buying some DS games for my mom for X-mas. In the end, I got her Tetris DS and that new Word Coach game, since she is so into the Brain Ages. I looked for Clubhouse games first, but no stores in the area seem to have it in stock anymore.

    Um, Amazon?
  • Yeah, Amazon is an option, but while I was looking I found Tetris. I am almost 100% sure that she will like that better anyway. I'll keep Clubhouse games in reserve for now.
  • Ah, so basically here is the deal. This hard drive is just a normal external hard drive. However, it comes with some Windows software that makes sharing files over the network very easy. This software, however, does not allow network sharing of files with certain file extensions. There is nothing preventing you from taking this drive and using it like any other external hard drive. There is nothing preventing you from sharing files on this drive over the network the way you normally do.

The only evil here is that it happens to come with some shitty software to make network sharing easier. Just don't use that software. There is no DRM in the drive. Heck, I wouldn't even call this DRM at all. It's just that there happens to be some network file sharing software on a CD in the same box, and that software happens to be shitty and has less features than free software that does the same thing.
  • Non sequitur, much, Scott? ;)

Also, if she likes puzzle games, perhaps Polarium would be good?
  • I'll second the New York Times Crossword game. It's a pretty simple implementation, but it's clean and easy to use. And you can't beat the 3000+ puzzles. I think it's, like, $10 these days.

    Doh, wrong thread.
