Media Player

edited December 2007 in Everything Else
I just got Winamp, a media player, and I really like it. I haven't played any movies with it, but I like the audio part quite a bit. It minimizes in a tiny tool bar on the top, and has a small fade out and in when you pause and unpause.

Are there any other media players that are better?

  • I would say something snide...but I can't think of anything truly fitting. Winamp is pretty good, I used it when I used windows as my primary OS years ago.
  • If you're looking for something super light, Foobar 2000 is the win.
  • I just got Winamp, a media player...
The fact that you had to explain what Winamp was makes me feel old. Back in the day, Winamp was synonymous for mp3 player.
  • I use VLC myself, although only to watch films/tv shows. It's pretty good and never caused me any trouble.
Although i cannot compare it to Winamp as i have never used Winamp so i cannot commit on if it is better or worse than VLC
  • Winamp is nice (for audio). It has its goods and bads. Just settle with what you like.

If you want something good for video playback, install the CCCP pack, it comes with Media Player Classic and Zoom Player for you to pick which you like. Or just grab the Windows version of MPlayer. Also, personally I avoid VLC for the things I hear about it aren't that good. It uses some bad hackish ways to playback video and I've heard about a fansubbing group (don't know the name) specifically making sure that VLC would mess up the video during playback. All whilst following just standards afaik.
  • Jet Audio is also very nice and has resume should you listen to long recordings
  • Amarok is regarded by most Linux users as the best but I don't know about windows. Winamp looks good for basic capabilities but there is also a good one called MediaMonkey which has loads of features.
