Email Troubles

edited January 2008 in Everything Else
OK so, I have a question about my E-mail and I thought that this would be a good place to ask it.

I am currently using Cox internet web mail (for some unknown reason I haven't switched to G-Mail). But now, I'm finally making the switch! Only theres one problem, I need to know how to redirect any new email to my G-Mail account. This will save me the trouble of sending out an E-mail telling people to send to a new address.

If any of you can offer any information, it would help a lot. Thanks!

  • You have to ask Cox.
  • Ok, so Cox does the redirecting their selves, theres not a program or anything?

Any e-mail that is sent to your COX account goes to the COX e-mail server. You need to get that server to forward those e-mails to the GMail server. This is not something you can do by installing a program on your personal computer. COX controls that e-mail server, so you need to find out from them how to configure that server to forward your mails.
  • The basic upshot would be to go log in to their web interface for your account and see if there is some tool that will let you set a forwarding address for your e-mail. Look over their on-site FAQs, et cetera. Any decent ISP should let you have the ability to forward your e-mail from their server to whatever account you choose.
  • Try, like Techparadox said, logging in to your COX web based inbox and check your options/settings. Most email services have a forwarding option somewhere in there. Just follow the instructions it gives and it should send your email to your gmail account. If you can set it so that it keeps the original email header, do so. Else you'll have to type in the mail address you want to reply to each time you write a reply.
