Portable podcast device from Belkin

Self Contained iPod Podcaster
Having not the audio knowledge that many pod-casters here have, I'm not sure if this is a "good" portable recorder. Any thoughts? I'm not looking for one, but my techno-geek curiosity is always heightened around this time of year thanks to CES and Macworld. I love gadgets, and this might make life easier for more on the go recording for GeekNights.

  • It looks like it will do the trick, but it also looks gimmicky.
  • It seems useful but it looks ugly. I like how they described the look as a 1950's space opera transmogrifier.
  • If you can record directly to an iPod, how good would this be for interviews on the go?

No different than recording to an SD card or anything.

From the looks of it, you're not recording the way old iPod devices did (that is to say, through the 1.8mm headphone jack), but through the digital connector at the bottom of the iPod. This allows for much better quality.

I don't get the "record to an iPod" feature. It's better, cheaper, more reliable, and more future-proof to use SD cards.

I suppose it might be something to do with not having to swap out cards half way through an interview because you realize you already had some stuff on the old one. I think the iPod thing is kind of convenient.

A 4 gig SD card will cover over a hundred and forty hours of perfectly good (for voice) mp3 audio and costs practically nothing.

Well I suppose you would need to be really forgetful. Probably just the "it works with an iPod!" gimmick in full effect.
