So I've started a gamelog

edited January 2008 in Video Games
I've decided to begin tracking my gaming habits for the next year just out of curiosity to see what games and platforms I play on most frequently. I'm using a very simple spreadsheet with just a date column, game column and platform column.

I encourage any gamers on the forum to try this too and at the end of the year we'll post our results to see what were the most "popular" games and platforms on the forums during 2008. Don't worry about it being half way through January, I only started mine on the 8th. For platforms I'm keeping Xbox and XBLA separate, PS3 and PSN separate and Wii and VC separate, you get the idea.

Anyone interested in this experiment?

  • Seems like a lot of work. My advice would be to only use Steam all year, and have them take care of the number tracking. Easy.
  • It's not that much work, considering how long you'll spend on the game, as compared to how long it takes to key into a spreadsheet.

I'm up for trying this, but are you tracking your hours? If I do this, I'm definitely gonna track game time.
  • Aside from the aforementioned Steam, you could also use Xfire to track your PC gaming habits. It'll log darned near everything you play and save it to your profile on their servers.
  • It takes less than a minute a day to simply write in the one or two games I've played in that day.

All I had to write last night was:

    1/14/08 Team Fortress 2 Xbox360
    1/14/08 Resident Evil: UC Wii
  • The Wii also tracks your habits, but you would have to go back over the whole year to tally them up.
  • So I'm actually coming up on my 2nd year of this and I have a complete history of my game playing during this time. It's interesting to look back and see what I played on certain days and to see what games I played most.
