How to Organize Music Library

edited March 2008 in Technology
I have one laptop (Macbook), one desktop (Ubuntu), and an NSLU2. I just got the desktop up and running a week ago, and all my music is on the Macbook. I'm planning on using the NSLU2 to serve the music to bother computers, but if I upload something to the SMB share from Ubuntu, there's no easy way to modify the iTunes database file so that it appears in iTunes. Any suggestions?

  • On your Macbook create an alias (aka shortcut, aka symlink) from your /home/music folder to the folder on the SMB share that has all the music. Then add that folder to iTunes.
  • I've used Media Monkey, not only is it a decent media player, but when you intstall it it will organize all the music for you. Hooray laziness!

I'd try it out if I had a computer running Windows.
