How to start podcasting

edited June 2006 in Technology
The question really isn't how to start a podcast so much as what kind of software and things are needed to start one. I guess this is a question for Rym. My mother wants to start a podcast (she actually just said talkshow but... ) and told me to find some people who knew what to do. So what kind of software do you use to record on to your computer and the type of mic. My mother thought you guys were quite professional when I had shown her GeekNights so I thought I might as well just ask on the forums.

We just returned from a weekend that included both a convention and a trip to the Jersey shore. I am thusly exhausted.

For now, there's a decent listing of all of the software and equipment we use here. Read that over for now, and I'll post in greater detail after I've had some sleep. ^_^

  • Thanks Rym^^
  • You can podcast to allmost any degree, i do my podcast using teamspeak and a crappy gaming headset, it sounds terrible, but its free. The factors to consider are you professional you want to be and how much cash you want to put into it.
  • I blogged about my new equipment for Friday Night Party Line here:

There are a number of books on it that are helpful, particularly Podcasting Hacks.

Systm did a terrific video on it that can be found here:

  • Yeah, my mother wants to be somewhat professional since she wants to start some reading hour or something like that. My mother's crazy. I think she said she was willing to put $500 into it.
