Wireless router with dial-up

edited April 2008 in Technology
A few years ago my parent's bought a wireless router when we didn't know we couldn't get DSL. Recently I have been trying to set it up with my Wii so that I can buy the smaller virtual console games. The Wii recognized the router but couldn't connect. I tried plugging the computer in where that modem goes for the connection, but that didn't work. Does anyone out there know how to use a wireless router with dial-up?

I've never seen a router that can do dial-up. You need to configure the router to dial the modem and login to the ISP. I don't even know if that is possible. Maybe they make special dial-up routers.
  • Isn't this just a waste of time? Even if you do manage to connect to the internet with your Wii, via Wifi through a Dial Up pipe, you won't get anything worthwile out of it.

It's not a waste of time, I don't plan on playing online or anything, just buying nintendo games. The virtual console nes games shouldn't be more than a few megs so I could still download them. I do know someone who has dialup and does this, except with the usb dongle which I would rather not buy.

I have broadband and few times it took a while to get the games from VC.

  • Yeah but those were probably N64 games, or other games with larger files.

Nope. NES games. The last N64 game I downloaded was Mario Kart 64, and that was when I got the Wii over a year ago.

What do you define as "a while"? If you mean an hour or 2 than that sucks but if you mean 10-30 minutes then it isn't a big deal. I've waited much longer than a couple of hours for a download.
