  • My foolproof strategy only applies to multiplayer games. Single player Advance Wars is alright.

Planes are mostly useless, and ocean combat is the only part of the game that requires tactics and planning.
We shall see about that. I hear Rym was looking for some online play. Go and test your "strategy".
    I will when I don't have a paper to write. ~_^

    Hah!

    Hah!
  • You will win every single Advance Wars game if you keep building mechs and never stop.
And you will lose every single game if your opponent knows anything about anti-air or indirect units.

I restarted DOR 'cause I'm just failing fantastically at understanding the basic strategies.

I really think they shouldn't rank the first few missions, it gives the user a false sense of big headedness.

  • Well, DOR is very different from every prior Advance Wars game. The strategies you must employ are much more subtle than before, and there isn't anymore the "special super-fast way to win every time" for most missions/maps.
  • I was interested to hear about the glider cartridge, as I played a lot of the original glider, which came out for the Macintosh back in '89, when they were mostly still one-pice and black and white. When the company that distributed it (Casady and Greene) went belly up it reverted to its author, John Calhoun, and he is now giving away the Mac OS X port of it for free here:

I hadn't though about it in years, now I'll be playing it on my Mac again... Unfortunately the level editor is only on OS 9, I wonder what tool you will have to use to edit the cartridge levels?

As usual, I've posted way too late. From someone who lives in Hong Kong (and lived in mainland China for a while) I can tell you there most certainly are bootleg Magic; The Gathering cards, of varying quality. Most of them were customized and translated into Chinese.

The golden rule in China is, "If it can be copied, it can be sold". I recall being really tempted to buy a pack because I recall one blurry card having Chris Tucker's face superimposed on top. I'm not kidding; The pirates/bootleggers seem to think the solution to any printing problem or blurry image is to superimpose Chris Tucker's face on top. I recall a pirated version of the Matrix (again somewhat Blurry on the cover) having Chris Tuckers face superimposed over Laurence Fishburne's.

  • I'm not a fan of Windsor knots. Mostly because I'm not a fan of spread collar shirts, and those are the only shirts that big knots seem to look good on.
  • Glider was a classic Macintosh game, as you can see by the picture on the blog with the Mac plus in it. I remember playing it on my dad's old Quadra 630. It was in color and hard as hell. "hmmm.... perhaps I should pull out the old macs this weekend and do some retro mac gaming. I wonder if the Quadra can run marathon?"

Okay FF:CC pros, me y mis amigos are planning on playing through FF:CC. We are in need of some gamecube links and I found some for about 2$ each, but I wonder if it is an indicator of being basically unusable?(The GBA links)

More importantly, there are only three of us interested in the idea and I am unsure if we needed to sway another to join us so I am here to find the solution. Do we need a fourth person to play and do I need to purchase four Gamecube links ?

I don't know about you, but I do not trust those 3rd party shady-looking GBA->GCN cables. I would get the first party ones. If for no other reason, the first-party cables clamp into the GBA and prevent accidental disconnection during gameplay.

Three people is enough to play, but four is better. If you can get a fourth, do it. If you can't, don't let that stop you from playing. Two is not enough. You need one GBA, preferably an SP, and one cable per-person. Remember when using an SP that you can't charge it while playing. Keep an eye on the battery, so you can save, recharge, then start playing again after. A regular GBA has a crappier screen, but you can swap batteries to keep on trucking.
  • Thanks, I'll probably post a follow up on how it went.
