Yahoo Pipes

edited April 2008 in Technology
I just recently started using yahoo pipes, which lets users create custom RSS feeds with special characteristics. It uses a very intuitive AJAX interface to connect different operations, with support for intermediate operations like regular expressions. As an example: I created a "pipe" which takes a specific search from isohunt and returns direct links to the torrent files, by plugging that into Miro and I can download fansubs automatically. Other "pipes"might enrich feeds from Penny Arcade or Digg.

Yahoo pipes is relatively new, and content producers have not fully embraced XML, so this gets me very excited for future iterations/innovations. I would love to see what others can find and create.

  • I discovered it a long time ago. It's nifty, but it's not actually useful.
  • I've known about pipes for about a year now.

I think it's useful, but I really don't use it that often. I used to use it to filter out all the bullshit articles from Kotaku (game cakes? gimme a break...). Then I just unsubscribed to Kotaku and got actual decent gaming blogs in my feed reader.

It's also not bad for combining a set of feeds together, like a bunch of feeds from isohunt searches, then combines them into one feed called "torrents".
