Running your own DNS

edited April 2008 in Technology
Does anyone run their own DNS servers?

I currently register my domains through godaddy and use their free DNS service to maintain my DNS records. This has been working well for me but a few of my friends want to host their sites on my server. I know you want at least two servers for DNS but that is about all I know about running a DNS server.

What I was thinking of doing is using a couple of VPS for the DNS servers. They would be much cheaper than getting a second dedicated server and would insure my hosting server is not also providing DNS information for sites located on that same server.

Anbody?
