synaptic fails, but apt-get install works

Whenever I do anything in synaptic it fails to connect, but everything through the command line works fine. I'm running Hardy Heron, any help would be greatly appreciated.

    are you running synaptic as root? What exactly does synaptic say? Go to System->Administration->Software Sources and make sure everything is cool.

    Everything is working fine now, the Canadian server seems to be down though. I changed it to main server and everything is fine.
