Battle of the Bands

edited May 2008 in Video Games
I just got this game in the mail for review purposes.

I played it for about 30 minutes in single player mode and I'll play the multi-player mode over the course of the weekend.

So far I have to say this game is crap. The controls are more like Wii Boogie than anything else except there is no rhythm in this rhythm game.

The battle aspect is interesting but not implemented in a good way. Essentially you launch attacks on your opponent by hitting a certain number of beats. You have multiple attacks but they are all basically the same thing, just requiring more beats to pull off.

The best thing about the game is that the tracks are recorded in 5 different styles. What this does is that while you "battle" the genre of the music you are battling to changes based on which band is winning or has the upper hand.

It's kind of neat hearing a song like Def Leppard's "Photograph" bouncing between Hip Hop and Latin but it wears out after a while. Couple this with the fact that they have a media player area where you can do this at your own leisure and there is no real reason to even play the game.

I'll throw this in front of some kids to see if they like it but I think this is a Wii game that should sell for $20 not $50.

It was a great concept but it utterly fails in execution.
