Earbud Issues

edited May 2008 in Technology
I am having a problem. The volume on one of my earbuds is very faint and the other can be heard perfectly well. Is there some way that I would be able to fix this, or should I just get a new pair or try to get someone to fix it for me?

Are they expensive ones or cheap ones?
  • They were $30, but I got them on sale for $10. I would prefer to not buy a new pair unless I absolutely have to, though.

Test them by plugging them into other things. If the earbuds are definitely broken, check for loose wires. They are only $10, so you might as well try to fix them. At worst, you break them and replace them anyway.

I had this problem with a pair of earbuds recently. I looked around for tips on fixing them, and came up with nothing (as it wasn't a wire connection issue). I just went out and bought new earbuds (much nicer ones, though still cheap). They have already lasted me longer than my old pair.
So that the earbuds wouldn't just be tossed away, I actually gave them to a friend that uses "garbage" in her artwork.

  • Honestly, the only thing that's likely to be wrong is a loose wire. Unless you think that you can identify said wire and properly re-solder it without hurting yourself, just throw them away.
  • I am also having problems with my earbuds. My buds are just dying with age, basically breaking in half. But, that's what you get with Apple's earbuds I suppose. I think I am going to purchase the Etymotic ER-6i.
  • Go nuts and make Steampunk headphones out of them. If you fail just buy a new nice pair.
