Mplayer display issue

Mplayer has had this weird problem lately:
When ever I maximize a video or make it full screen, the window expands, but the video still stays the same size and leaves white space around it.

Any advice would be appreciated.

    Are you maximizing the video window and not the content inside the window?

    The way to make an mplayer video fullscreen is to push the f key.

    Yes, thats what my problem is. It worked fine till I reinstall ubuntu a few days ago.

    Problem solved, thanks! I had forgotten that I had set my vo to X11 in an attempt to get .rmvb files to play.
