  • Dunno if this is a big enough topic to deserve its own thread, but at what age do you think a women should stop referring to herself as a girl?

18 I spose, you can drink and drive (hopefully not together) so I think you class as an adult. Depends on the context.

Isn't it the same with boy ?
  • A boy can go through the stage of being called a guy though.

I always thought of "guy" as a synonym for "male". Like "dude". But maybe that's just California.

I suppose it is. I guess I just know more women who prefer to call themselves girls than men who prefer to call themselves boys... The original impulse for the question came from the radio. I was listening at work and "I'm Just a Girl" by No Doubt came on. A bit of Wikipedia browsing informed me that Gwen Stefani was 26 when they released that song, so it got me to thinking. :)

  • It is just a synonym like "gal", "lady" or "lass".
  • "gal"
    Always sounds sluttish to me.
    "lady"
    Sounds snobbish.
    "lass"
    Sounds chic yet adventurous.

  • I'll try calling a girl lass tomorrow and lets see how she reacts. I wonder..
