edited June 2008 in Technology
It's a Steve Jobs Apple Day today. 12:30 Eastern time is when people lose shit, and it hits the fan.

People crapping into ventilators. What a flowery, delightful image.

It goes to show we're more civilised than our close genetic relatives, who don't use a fan, and instead use a more direct method of distribution.

  • Is there a good RSS feed covering the event?
  • edited June 2008
Some links to keep us Apple Fanboys entertained until the video feed goes up:

Keynote Bingo. What keynote would be complete without this?

    Live Update feeds:
    macrumorslive.com
    engadget.com

And some other live feeds of note:
    gizmodo.com
    arstechnica.com
    slashgear.com
    stuff.tv

Edit: Hope that helps... was typing all that out as you posted.

There's a live audio stream here, live updates here, and a Twitter feed here. You can get an RSS of the Twitter but Twitter as a whole will likely go down.

Also, its 2am here, bring on the keynote so I can go to bed! XD

EDIT: Bah, was beaten. I'm the first with the audio stream though. :)

  • I just hope Apple presents something affordable. ^_~
  • Apple? Affordable?
  • Yes, that's what I'm thinking to.
  • Hmmm... Snow Leopard is Real.

    Let's hope to FSM it isn't... *cough*NGage*cough*

I think they're trying to get games for it and such. I think it's a pretty stupid idea. No way it would beat out the DS or even the PSP.

    8GB 3G iPhone for $199 USD, 16GB for $299

  • I'm thinking I might get extravagant. For $200, I'll get it. Then if Android turns out to be better, I'll pay the penalty and switch it up.

    Didn't I say so? ^^
  • The GPS and push notification features should work nicely with any of the new programs. Loopt looked interesting. Scott, when you going to download the iPhone SDK and start making your millions?

Right after I do all the other things I've shit-talked about.

Though I do find it kind of agonizing, because I have to buy a new phone soon since mine is absolutely broken, but even if Steve Job says 199$ maximum, I'll bet that evil T-Mobile Germany will have a ludicrous monthly subscription fee (89€). SO should I wait out? I wonder.

They pulled the "third pillar" thing. And we all know what happened the last time a company used that analogy. Which one will fall first?

We have no 3G service here. (We also have no AT&T, but they are expected to acquire our local GSM provider soon.) Do I have to pay the extra $10 per month for the wonderful GSM iPhone if I can't use GSM here? The price drop is pretty meaningless when they've raised the contract price by $240.

  • A $200 iPhone sounds great, and I'd love one... but I'm on Verizon, and don't want AT&T. And sounds like the monthly cost of the service is a lot more then I want to pay.
  • It's not actually a price drop. The contracts have gone up 10$/month so on a two year contract it ends up costing you 40$ more. Basically you're paying 40 bucks extra for 3G and extra battery life which is a pretty good deal in itself, that is if you were comfortable with the (out of my range) high price they started with.

Here's hoping they hit the contract-free ebay market at a nice low price point.

Whuh? Wasn't Nintendo the last company to use that analogy? Last I heard, they weren't doing too shabby. (Insert IT PRINTS MONEY pic here)
  • I was referring to the fact that the Gameboy was left in the dust after the DS ended up succeeding.
  • So the moral is don't jump on the older Pillar.

Even so, you have to sign a contract to get the phone.
  • I'm hoping for a prepaid option. I read on Engadget that the US won't get it, but it seems like Prepaid is more prevalent in Aus. Hell, The first time I'd heard of Prepaid being used in America is when AT&T said they won't be offering it.

Pre-paid phones are really only used by the very poor or the shady in the US.

Will it be available as a Gophone (prepaid service)?
"No, only available with a two-year contract." Pretty cut and dried there.
Just to support your statement. ^_~
