Buying a GPS for Geocaching

edited June 2008 in Everything Else
I am very interested in Geocaching. Has anyone tried this before? I am looking for recommendations for a nice GPS starter unit.

    iPhone.

I'm looking to be a bit more cost-effective than that. Plus I am considering heading out this weekend.

I think there are probably cheaper options.

I planning on going geohashing tomorrow. I live in Rhode Island so if the coordinates go into water I'm going to the Boston area.
  • These are a few Garmin GPSs that support geocaching, I just picked up the Venture HC model, though I am thinking of upgrading to one of the other models (support for automatic routing, electronic compass, barometric altimeter, and memory expansion slot). So far it seems pretty decent, but then again, my last experience with a GPS device was one my uncle bought over 10 years ago ^_^. As far as sensitivity, I have not had much trouble getting a signal when driving or walking/hiking, though it always loses signal going indoors. This has not really been much of a problem for me so far, but I have not been in areas with heavy tree cover to see how it performs.

The Great Jasini says: You will geocache once.
