He makes crazy movies, but if you actually know about him he's a pretty cool guy (I was just reading this book he wrote on the creative process and how he likes to meditate). I like Blue Velvet quite a bit, but Eraser Head is very peculiar.
I really loved twin peaks, but I thought Mulholland Drive was ridiculous. I think he delves too much into his own personal imagery/symbolism that just doesn't resonate with anyone except him.
He's on the path to being the next Shirow/Kojima. ^_~
Lynch started directing much before those two released anything. If anything, I'd say there's a bit of a David Lynch influence in the Metal Gear games.

I disagree with this statement, Rym. While you are right on the point that his movies are as incomprehensible as Shirow's manga and Kojima's video games (some of them), they're horses of a different color.
How are Lynch's movies incomprehensible? They're weird, certainly. Silly, bizarre, surreal, but I fully comprehend the Lynch movies I have seen. They all have themes and ideas that they express very well, and those ideas are in fact amplified by the weirdness.

While the themes he uses are somewhat clear in his films, I have always felt that he is on a different plane than any other filmmaker and there is something deeper than what is on the surface. EDIT: If you do understand, would you care to share your interpretations with me as I'd like to hear them?
Yeah, the wikipedia Themes and Interpretation sections pretty much cover it. What I dig about Lynch is his juxtaposition of very idealized American archetypes with terrifying and surreal imagery. David Foster Wallace wrote a really neat essay which address that subject, David Lynch Keeps His Head.
