Who's checking this out? It seems to be basically a browser-based Second Life run by Google. I'll probably check it out for a few days, then drop it like every other thing I've done.
Google does IMVU. Waaaaaaaaah. I have been looking at this all day today, and the news has left the team excited but despondent. This sort what I am doing as a job, a very similar 3D Virtual Chat, only browser-based. But what is Emily compared to the might of Google? I have a lot to say about this, but I better start making more 3D furniture, as I am the only artist on the project and my future is at stake. But still, hope shines through. There is no Mac version (yet).
Seems very Metaverse-ish if you've been readingSnow Crash...
Alex made a reference to Snow Crash in one of our Specs at a meeting. I was happy. This is more like IMVU than Second Life, I think. I like this sort of thing. If you guys get into it, we should make a Geeknights hang out room.
Its slow. I wasn't really expecting Source engine speeds, but its slower than I thought it would be.
EDIT: It has really sped up for me, So I'm making a Virtua Geek Haus. (That's Virtua as in Virtua Fighter. Its not a misspell.) Its a public room but it's not in the directory so that link is your way in.
I like it because it's Animal Crossing without the shit. I hate it because it's buggy and kinda boring.
If you get rid of the "shit," there's no reason to play Animal Crossing. It's just two cartoons instant messaging. Why not just IM each other without the shitty gimmick?
