We have anime conventions obviously. How come there isn't any (that I know anyway) general animation conventions? Do you think they would work? There's a fanbase for cartoons from everywhere. Would you attend one? I definitely would because I love cartoons as well as anime and films.

Are you like the librarian stereotype, all prim and proper in public (pardon the purely painful alliteration, pals) but freaky deaky with extra squeaky behind closed doors?
Hmmm? Maybe a little case of hardcore denial - You decry it, but you just have this little voice saying "I love it, let's do it, let's go crazy, Let's rip off our prim librarian clothes and show everyone what we're really like, metaphorically speaking!" and you hate it - But just embrace it!
You tell us we're odd, but we all know that As soon as your roomate/family/partner is gone for a while, you whip on the comfy Jammies, a pint of Ben and Jerry's best, and Hook into some Trigun or Revolutionary girl Utena. Maybe you're even a closet Pumpkin scissors fan, who the hell knows.
Just as Obi-wan told Luke, "Let yourself go, trust your feelings" - And look how that whole debacle turned out. Saved the whole galaxy, he did, even if it was all fictional.
You're one of us, honey - just stop pretending, and believe in yourself enough to Be yourself to us. Let us cast aside our pasts of insulting each other, and bring you into the geeky fold as friends!
That con seems to be aiming for as much pan-geekism as possible, though. Comics, anime, animation, sci-fi, television, movies, video games, tabletop/card games - they were all represented. I would still like to see an animation-specific convention just to see how one would turn out.
As for the general cartoon convention idea: Most anime/comic conventions have a large western cartoon contingent, so I think most people who would otherwise attend a cartoon con are attending these.
