You mentioned in last night's episode that RIT didn't bow into pressure and purchase one of those music download site subscriptions. However, this is untrue. As of last year, RIT has 3000 student licenses to "Cdigix". I think that they tried to buy the least possible service, as Cdigix seems small and unknown, as well as only purchasing licenses for a quarter of the students. However, Cdigix reports that under 1000 students actually signed up for the service. The service itself is terrible, too, as it only allows downloading and playing in the "Ctrax Music Player", which supports only Cdigix WMA (not normal WMA DRM, some other proprietary stuff) and MP3 encoded files, as well as being unable to play on any brand of MP3 player. Based on the press (Of which there was a lot), it was entirely Simone's doing. Luckily, despite several RIAA attempts at shutdown, the filesharing community at RIT is still going strong.
