I've always liked Ars Technica. Their articles are very in-depth and they have some great features, see their description that explains the in-and-outs of the x86 processor.

I don't really keep track of tech news, but from listening to GeekNights I'm under the impression that Engadget, Gizmodo, Slashdot, and TechCrunch are more than enough.
