Disgaea DS

edited October 2008 in Video Games
Who else picked up this remake?
I'm not normally a big fan of tactical RPGs, but something about Disgaea is awesome to me. I think its the stuff like the Dark Senate that really adds a lot to the game.
I have to admit, tho. Other than being able to bring it with me wherever I go, and playable Adel, Roslynn and Plenair, there's not much reason to buy this if you already have Disgaea PS2.

  • I really want to play this game, but unfortunately a lack of funds and a large list of games I want to play will be keeping me from it.

If it follows the path of N1's other games, it's going to get a small-ish run and not go down in price for a long time.
  • I really want to play this game, but I don't have my DS anymore.
  • I picked this up for PSP not to long ago, since I heard its a superior version to the DS one. So far I'm really loving the game, which I wasn't expecting.

Basically, the only difference is playable Plenair (the girl who you talk to to use the Dark Senate) in the DS version.
  • I think I'll just buy Disgaea on the PS2, as it's just been rereleased and now only costs $20.
  • I have Disgaea for my PSP, and I really really like it. If it's the same as the DS version I might just pick it up.

I just pirated it for my Cyclo. Dunno if I'll buy. I'm tight on funds and I have a shitload of games to play...so we'll see. I'm definitely gonna support Chrono Trigger, though.

Do you mean team attacks (where multiple characters attack at once), or consecutive attacks (where multiple characters attack an enemy one after the other as part of explicit commands)?

The ones I am thinking of is when the art of the character's faces involved in it and one character jumps into the air, the next character attacks the enemy, and then the other character falls down onto the enemy for massive damage. I don't know which one it would be classified as.

    That's a team attack.
Basically, adjacent characters have a chance to pull one off as long as you're doing an attack on an enemy in an adjacent square. Characters of similar types, or with the same mentor, have a higher chance of pulling them off.
Basically, it's like bonus damage for positioning your troops a certain way.
  • I got this more or less on release and I love it. I absolutely love the Commentary Prinny you get after you clear the game for the first time and Plenair is close to broken.

Beating the shit out of parliament is rather therapeutic.

It gives you a shitty ending, though.

Man, I was so used to playing the Final Fantasy Tactics games, so I didn't notice that you can field as many characters as you actually have. Needless to say, I got my ass kicked on many occasions in my first time going through the Dark Adonis' Castle.

Well, I only did it twice, once after I figured I could get those fuckers to pass the "more expensive stuff please" bill after I bribed the shit out of them (and at least half of them said nay anyway, assholes) and then again when I had no express want to give up my items to attempt to please them.

Besides that, I've already had at least one Friendly Fire fatality so I'm doomed to the Normal ending anyway.

At least the game is still challanging on future playthroughs by passing "Stronger Enemies" bills.
  • Heh, one of the Senators in my Dark Senate is named Barak and he is for practically everything I propose. I found that to be quite humourous.

Thing is, the Dark Senate are a bunch of fucks that will vote against you regardless of what stuff you throw in their direction (That they want). The only language that gets though their ears is the language of fists.
  • I think you missed the intent of my post. There is a Senator by the name of Barak. Maybe he will now run for Netherworld President shortly after his becoming a senator.
  • Might make my life easier, I'll pass bills and the hospital admissions could be kept to a minimum.
  • Remember, the more you bribe senators, the more likely they are to vote for what you want in the future.
And don't bother bribing low-level senators. The higher level ones have more influence, generally, and you need a majority of the influence to pass a bill.
  • I still haven't played this game yet....so can anyone explain why there is a political system in Disgaea and what it's used for?

    Because we can!
    what it's used for?
Getting the shop to stock better/different items. Opening up secret areas. Creating "distinguished" or "genius" characters. Making the enemies tougher/easier. Improving your character's movement or number of counter-attacks.
