I am quite interested to see how far back my family tree goes. I know where my grandfather was born (Arendal, Norway), and the names of his parents (Thomas and Asta), so I figure I should be able to do some tracing.
Do it now. With every passing year, it becomes harder and harder to dig the middling links between current generations and the origins up. I was lucky in that my grandparents dedicated a good decade of their lives to travelling around the country pouring over cemeteries and town records. They traced that side of my family tree all the way back to their original land grants and naming rights in Albion.
Yeah, my Grandparents on my mom's side have traced our family's Scottish like back a ways, but I'll likely never know the German or Swedish roots. To be honest I'm not really terribly interested in my own family's history. I never thought lineage was all that important.
