If you grew up in the 60s and 70s, you might have a different attitude about ST:TOS. It inspired many people to go into medicine, physics, etc. etc. It also gave people hope during a very traumatic time in our history. I'll agree with your sentiments re: the episode "Spock's Brain" though.
