Your Favorite TED Talks

I've been watching quite a few of these TED Talks lately and I wondered why we hadn't shared our favorite ones. I think it's pretty simple what we do from here.

By far my favorite one, Jill recounts her stroke, and goes more in depth use her experiences as a neuro-scientist:

I can't really say I have a favorite. All the videos I've watched, I've liked. I've seen some marine biology/seafloor video, one about the Wii remote, and one that was a thing of the day.

TED is happening right now. I can't wait for the videos to start going online. BoingBoing is making posts summarizing a lot of the talks. Bill Gates on Malaria is going to be a winner. Apparently he let out some live mosquitoes and said there was no reason only poor people should have to deal with Malaria. Also, I'm really interested in this one about bread, mechanization of agriculture, and such.

My favorite one is the one about a pigeon's eye view of Rome and I found the finished illustrations to be very excellent. I even clapped at the end.

That video is amazing and relevant to at least two of the current arguments going on in the forum at the moment.

Jennifer Lin on the piano. The section near the end where she improvises a piece based on randomly selected notes is mind-blowing.

Speaking of mind-blowing, Evelyn Glennie has some interesting insights on the nature of sound and how we hear it.

I purchased Mccandless' book a few weeks before I saw this episode and believe it is one of my most read coffee table books currently. During idle moments I find myself re-reading it regularly and recommend his book whenever I can.

He sums up a lot of my own views on the topic. Also, that talk was from 2007, and we're already starting to see some of the stuff he predicted. It's really, really cool.
