GRUB on a USB key?

I want to install Ubuntu, the Ultimate Boot CD and, in the future, various other boot time tools onto USB keys as they would be easier to carry and faster to load but, if I were to partition a single USB key, install a different tool to each partition, then install GRUB to the MBR (master boot record) to select which to boot.. what would go wrong?
