Given that CD/Lossless encoding is more accurate than vinyl, couldn't you just make a filter box to add in the poorer sound and scratchyness to simplify things a bit?

Yeah, I could swear I had a filter in cooledit for that.
I actually could care less about the "audio" quality of a podcast as long as it's content is acceptable and there is not a glaring audio problem (like hearing the breathing or werid noises)
I don't find any of them pleasurable and I haven't noticed any issues with the episodes. I was listing possible audio problems so that people could be specific and point to actual audio problems rather than nondescript panning of the audio with no constructive comments.
Do you also think vinyl sounds better than digital?
I do.
Sometimes vinyl does sound better than digital, but it's because it's material that was originally produced on vinyl, then poorly transferred to CD. I'm sure some people miss the distinction.
I think the audio quality has noticeably improved over time. Recently, I was listening to the various Zombie episodes and they improved to a great degree from one to the next.
