RDRAM

edited May 2009 in Technology
My computer was a gift from my grandparents. It contains a 1500 Mh processor, 3 hard drives (1 200, 1 40, 1 120), and, the subject, 2 sticks of a mere 128 MB of RDRAM.
So, I was wondering if I was the only one here with this ancient and rare RAM, and if anyone knows where I could get some. 256 Megs just isn't going to cut it. I am using swap so I can run everything I need, but it's slow, especially in Windows (I'm running Ubuntu).

Thanks.

  • Wow, you actually have a PC that uses the dreaded RD RAM. You have my sympathies. Even if you could find the correct RAM on crucial.com, eBay, or Newegg, it's really not worth it. You can buy a $400 netbook with 1 Gig of ram that will probably be faster than the computer you have right there. Since you obviously aren't doing 3d games or such, a netbook will do everything you do now. It won't be super fast, but it will be faster than what you've got now.
  • RD RAM? God. My last desktop had that...It can run $200+ for a 512MB stick. Just follow Scott's advice, buy a netbook or something.
  • You're boned. My PC has RDRam and the stuff is ludicrously expensive to get. I know because I've looked to see what it would cost to get up to 2GB of ram, and it was an upwards of $1500 at the least expensive.

Yep, my friend's mom had this issue a few months ago. She wanted about 2gbs of ram, and since it was essentially cheaper to just buy a new motherboard and some new ram, they just fully upgraded the computer instead.

That is what we will have to do when we need to update the desktop.
