  • Ahem. "Conservation." The opposite of progress for the sake of progress. Also associated with liberals.
  • Linkigi, I'm not sure if you're on Twitter (I might be peddling science books to some stranger), but you might be interested in reading The Firmament of Time if you like Kuhn.
    Yeah, that was me.
  • So Romney managed to take both Michigan and Arizona yesterday. With the way Gingrich has fallen behind, I doubt we'll get to see a brokered convention anymore, although the primaries will probably be close all through March.

Also, in the context of politics, the word "surge" will never be used the same way again.
  • I'm still hoping that Santorum makes it. I really, REALLY want to see him in real debates.
  • Fake headline: Romney comes from behind to stop Santorum surge.

As entertaining as that could theoretically be, the only problem I have with it is the thought that somehow he might end up being victorious.

I disagree. Santorum is mostly hated right now by people who do their own muckraking and follow political news sources outside of most papers and TV networks. His nomination as a GOP candidate would thrust him into the spotlight and highlight things that wound annihilate his base of support: his wife's abortion, his xenophobia, his racism, his hypocritical Catholicism (you'd be surprised just how many hypocritical Catholics hate hypocritical Catholics), his vehement misogyny, etc.

He would be excoriated and humiliated and his name would be destroyed. I wouldn't doubt the possibility of someone outing him. Meanwhile, the GOP big wigs (who actually fucking hate Santorum, since they know these things about him and know he's unelectable) would be turned on by the public while these things come out, and the party would probably see a schism, or at least so much damage and in-fighting that it'd never be viable again.

The nomination of Rick Santorum could be the best thing to happen to the United States in a long time, but even if Romney is nominated, it's not going to matter. The party is actively fragmenting, and you can see it in the divisiveness of the primaries.

Meanwhile, this passed the House and Senate and seems dubious.

  • ARRRGGG! Arietty is somehow anti-republican?

First the Muppets, now Dr. Seuss are being demonized? What BS. Grrrr. Grrr.

Whaaaaaaat? They glorify waste!? Like literally? They say "Throw it on the Floor!" What is their problem? They are saying one should actively teach children not to share, to be actively wasteful, to be selfish. These are not partisan values, sharing and moderation are essential to living peacefully in a group.
  • Well, that convinced me. I'm going to have to go vote for Gingritch now.

Sharing is for socialist fag-loving nazis that are ruining the country, Emily. It's against capitalism and therefore against Amurica and freedom. Don't you know that?

Why are we attacking the gas station?

See Bush, Reagan, Bush Sr, Clinton and Obama... I think they politically are Christians..... but probably don't really believe that nonsense. I think that they know they to have a job in politics, one must pretend to be Christian.

I believe Santorum ACTUALY believes in talking snakes, zombie saviours, and one manmade ship that carried every animal on earth during a FLOOD of the middle east. I also think he would have that retarded "my god is an awesome god" song played at his inauguration

It's very interesting... Personally, I think Bush (well, maybe not Bush, hard to tell with him as he is a born-again), Reagan, Bush Sr, Clinton, and Obama are Christians of the not-insane type. They go to church, say their prayers, do what it takes to be considered nominally religious, but they don't let their religion guide them any more than basic ideas of wrong or right would. The ol' "rational in everything else, but still use religion to fulfill my spiritual needs/desires" situation that I bring up every so often -- and this gets credit with those who think are leaders must at least be nominally Christian.

Santorum, on the other hand, is way out wacko (or at least plays one on TV). He's so wacko that he claims (honestly or otherwise) to believe in things his own religion says are metaphorical and not to be taken literally (such as the Book of Genesis) just to appease the other wackos out there.

  • Khamenei or Santorum?
Scored a 6 out of 8. You can tell the Khamenei quotes because he actually sounds educated.

  • Scored 8 out of 8 due to Linkigi's hint.
  • Andrew Breitbart has died. While that is sad, he was a pretty bad guy. Anyway, cue the conspiracy nuts.

Yeah, this is crazy; everybody knows Obama's kill squad only works on nights with a full moon.

Hey, remember when Andrew Breitbart uncovered that child sex slavery ring being run by ACORN in 2009?

    ABC News remembers...
He also founded his own news network, acting as the publisher of several news websites including Breitbart.com, Breitbart.tv, Big Hollywood, Big Government, Big Journalism and Big Peace.

Big Government broke the ACORN child sex trafficking scandal and also, in 2011, the "Weinergate" photo scandal that led to the resignation of New York Rep. Anthony Weiner.
