The Florida Supreme Court ruled that the state's congressional maps don't meet the requirements of a voter-approved constitutional amendment that prohibits political lines from being drawn to favor incumbents or a political party. The court ordered the Legislature to try drawing the maps again.
What is everyone's opinion on the first GOP debate tonight?
The moderators want Jeb to get the nomination, and gave him as much time to speak as he needed to say his lines.
The only person they gave more time to was Trump, and the questions directed at him were obviously aimed at getting him to blow up or otherwise make a big mistake.
They humored Carson (pretending he's a real candidate), but he's completely out of the running with his progressive taxation.
I heard Trump made a fool of himself. I can only hope he's relegated to being a side show now, but people seem to like him because he "tells it like it is," or somesuch nonsense.
It's pretty bad when I feel like Rand or Bush would be preferable.
Make no mistake, Rand is as bad or worse than Trump. He's just better at keeping things under control, because unlike Trump, he's got years of practice spinning his crazy bullshit to sound neutral or positive.
I think part of the issue is, while Obama has proven to be closer to the center, Republicans are still trying to portray him as a leftist Marxist Socialist Communist. Consequentially they have to go further to the right to prove how much better they are than him, and that puts them in the land of the crazies.

My introduction to Rand Paul was him on the Rachael Maddow show a few years ago, defending his stance that the Civil Rights Act should be repealed because it "abridges the rights of shopkeepers" to serve who they want. I feel like that sentence is a fair representation of Rand Paul.
While that is morally abhorrent, as a legal nerd it got me thinking that the Civil Rights Act is not really covered by the enumerated powers, and probably should've been a Constitutional Amendment.

I think my favorite one is everyone patting him on the back for protesting drone use overseas - while he's simultaneously saying they should be used for summary execution of petty criminals, like people robbing a liquor store.

Libertarians: No matter how crazy you think they are, they find a new way to impress you.
I've said it before, but most "libertarian" politicians are just republicans who don't want to call themselves republicans but are just as crazy. The only freedom they seem to care about protecting is the freedom for corporations to do whatever they want, despite what libertarianism is actually supposed to be about.

Libertarians and the Tea Party are essentially the same - it's basically the Christian wing and the irreligious wing of the same thing.
I've read up on Cruz's voting and support history, besides destroying the world via oil and deregulation what do you dislike about him?
Let's see:
* He doesn't believe global warming is man-made * He opposes the EPA * He opposes gun control * He opposes health care reform including the Affordable Care Act * He opposes net neutrality * He opposes a minimum wage increase * He wants to abolish the IRS and introduce the flat tax * He pushed for the Keystone pipeline
Really, the only sensible position he has taken is that the NSA is far overreaching in its surveillance.

He also opposes abortion He opposes sex education He continues to oppose marriage equality He opposes the relaxation of marijuana laws He advocates for private (religious) school vouchers He opposes separation of church and state He opposes most financial regulation and reform
He would likely have refused the Medicaid expansion were he a state governor. On a related note, Christie, Perry, Jindal, and Walker all refused the expansion and deserve to be recalled and then fucking banned from holding office ever again.
Pardon me but holy shit what a bunch of ignorant fucks. Is this what the conservative climate is now? Denying basic fucking human rights and believing that we are the center of the world?

Well, I suppose one way of looking at it is that the people saying "You'll be missing Bush Jr in a few years!" were correct, just not for the reasons they thought.

As I said above, with Obama being center-left Conservatives had to dive deeper down the crazy hole to show how not-him they are. I may actually change my political affiliation just to vote for Sanders in my state's (closed) primary.
"Arkansas State Representative Justin Harris, who gave away his adopted daughters to a child molester because he and his wife thought they were possessed by demons, will be given an award for courage at a dinner for Senator Ted Cruz tonight. Harris and a fellow state representative, Charlene Fite, are being commended for “standing strong in faith.”" - link to article
Holy fucking shit. For those who don't read, he's being given the award for opposing abortion and gay rights and demonstrating "Family Values"
Are Fox News and Co. hyping up Carly Fiorina so she will be an attractive candidate for vice presidency or some other cabinet position, or for some other reason? She is still far out as an actual candidate but she seems to get a lot of love from outlets.
Also, Mike Huckabee is attempting to spin the Fifth Amendment of the US Constitution, which restricts government conduct in criminal cases, as an anti-abortion argument. WAT?!

This could have a huge impact on gerrymandering if other states pick this up as well.

Cruz is a dangerous shitbag.
If Trump gets the nomination we deserve Hillary.
Cruz's and Carson's numbers went up
Trumps didn't really move up or down.
All other establishment candidates dropped in support.
Weep for the Republican party they are lost to the crazies.
Link?
Assassination wouldn't be a big disappointment at this point.
