Running for Local office.
As one of the more political members of the FRC, I had been asked to run for the position of councilperson in my hometown. Running against 4 incumbents that had changed sides yet again (originally they were republicans, who changed to democrats to get elected and now are republicans again). In a few weeks my campaign will be starting to move (local campaigns try and get out just two months before the election to make sure they don't over-saturated people not that off year elections ever have a great turn out). Anyone else ever run for a political office or thinking about it?

Sadly our local elections here is based on your last name recognition. With new people moving to my city its gradually changing but the fight to get a council seat is fierce. Lots of name calling and old people saying how bad X family is and they can't be trusted. This used to be a small farming town but is breaking away from that gradually after all the allotments went up for people to move closer to work. We have easy access to a main interstate and 2 state routes make up the center of the city. With that it is easy access for travel to the places of employment. Last year when we had our elections these people were the main reason a younger person got into city council and he argues the other members often. He is also the reason why we have more say in the meetings unlike before were you had to submit questions before hand.
Recently he was able to get an ordnance overturned that required that businesses be approved before opening up. Since then a lot more jobs have been created in the city.
Also I'm reading through Sanctuary the last few weeks while I'm campaigning which is somewhat coloring my perspective of politics :-p Turning me back into an idealist or something (especially the fact that the election comes before my 30th birthday ^_^).. If only I had a friend in the underworld to work towards the same goals :-p
Plus, I am a democrat, sure I don't agree with everything in the platform and I am sympathetic to third parties. But on a ideological level I agree with the Democrats the most.

Going to interview with the bigger newspaper tonight!
I like that right after Zygmont (one of my opponents) says that we are talking about insignificant things, I am quoted as running because of unprofessional attitude. Zing.
Have you been offered Secret Service protection yet?

Our local Library levy failed also which is good news because it was too costly. The city has been throwing money everywhere recently. The library bought property for a new library before they even had a levy for a new one; that got voted down. Then they tried to put this one forward and city taxes are expensive already.

I lost in the what I believe was the closest election in local Hatboro's history. Literally there were only 51 people who preferred Vincent Lasorsa (4th place) to me, so I guess I just have to convince 26 people by next election ^_^ but in the end we did change the face of council and moved the council back into democratic control. (by beating David Rich who only got 8 votes more then I did, for a sitting incumbent) A damn good first outing. Only 1,235 people out of 7,393 people who live in hatboro showed up (about 16% of the population). I also like the amount of under-votes that were not cast in the race, 352 people came in to vote in Hatboro and didn't vote for Council....
Find out who voted and target them next time.
