So Much for Hulu

  • I wish Netflix had a streaming-only account option.
  • Paying for the Netflix account is a given. For the 360, you also have to pay for an Xbox Live Gold membership.
It is less than 5 dollars a month extra.

However, if you have both PS3 & Xbox 360, and you don't really game online with the 360, the PS3 is the better choice. If Netflix on the PS3 is just as good or better than the 360, I won't be renewing my Gold Account after it expires.
  • PS3 requires a disc for Netflix Instant, though. There's no software solution yet. Lame.
  • You COULD buy a PS3, but don't you want to play video games?

To each their own. Yes, the 360 has more games to offer than the PS3, however there are certain titles that are PS3 exclusive that draws certain crowds. They also have downloadable content as well as older games to download to your system to play.

The PS3 already has a built-in web browser vs the 360 in which you have to take an extra step and know how to hook up your PC and use Windows Media Center, even though from what I've read, it's still a bit dodgy.

For those who enjoy Blu Ray, the PS3 has that. Yes, it has been shown that Blu Ray sales aren't as significant and the technology isn't a large of a jump from DVD vs VHS to DVD, however some consumers still prefer Blu Ray. The 360 did offer people to purchase an additional drive to view HD DVDs, but we all know what happened with that.

One thing I do like about the PS3 is that I can burn shows/media onto a disc and be able to watch it on my HDTV vs having to sit in front of my computer. When it comes to multi-media, the PS3 beats the 360 hands down.

So for the quips about the 360 being far superior depends on the consumer and what they want, imo.

  • I've been meaning to give hulu a try, but I doubt I'd ever want to pay for it. I actually haven't watched much TV (and by extension, anime) in years simply because I found it was less fun to watch by myself. Sure, I've watched a few shows on my own, but I prefer to watch them with other people. When I'm by myself, I usually just play video games instead.

Huh, now I'm all confused. If the PS3 doesn't play games, I wonder what those 20+ disc boxes on my shelf that say "PS3" on them are for... And now that I think about it, what exactly is it that I do with my PS3 for hours at a time? I don't watch that many DVD and Blu-Rays.

    It was a joke. :P

I know. Fight sarcasm with more sarcasm. ^_~

I would watch out, Rym or Scott might define those boxes as non-games :-p

Probably. I mean, what does the PS3 have? Little Big Planet and Metal Gear. What else? Games also available for other systems like Rock Band or Orange Box don't count.

That's per you. There is also God of War, Ratchet and Clank, Final Fantasy 13 Vesus, Uncharted 2, and others. Now, you'll probably not agree and don't care for those games, but many others disagree with you. :P

I honestly enjoy watching Jeremy play God of War while I'm multi-tasking or cross-stitching. The game is very beautiful and it's fun seeing some of the mythology in it.

Valkryia Chronicles? That's about the only other one I can think of since I don't own a PS3.

Some of those games are on other systems, and I'll most likely never play any of them.

Yes. The only factor to ever consider in a console is "what games can I play if I purchase this console that I cannot otherwise play?"

Which ones? I believe those are all PS3 exclusives. Final Fantasy 13 is different than Final Fantasy 13 Versus.

Probably. I mean, what does the PS3 have?
Just from my collection: LittleBigPlanet, Metal Gear Solid 4, Resistance, Resistance 2, Uncharted, Uncharted 2, Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction, Ratchet and Clank Future: Quest for Booty, Ratchet and Clank Future: A Crack in Time, InFamous, Super Stardust HD, Wipeout HD, Everyday Shooter, Siren: Blood Curse, Fat Princess, Flower, Killzone 2, and at least one more PSN game that I can't remember off the top of my head. Other ones that I can think of: Demon Souls, the Motorstorm games, the PixelJunk games, Heavenly Sword. Other ones coming down the pipe: White Knight Chronicles, MAG, God of War 3, Heavy Rain.

Are all these exclusive games great? No. I've have fun playing most of them. Would Scrym play any of them? Eh... not likely. If you want games that are completely new and different, the PC will always be the best place to get those. My main reasons for liking the PS3 are: 1) Sony tends to take more risks with their exclusive titles, which can lead to unique experiences; 2) Sony first-party titles tend to be more to my liking than Xbox/PC ones; and 3) RROD. I mean, come on.

EDIT: Good call on the Valkyria Chronicles Fletch. Forgot that one.

If by other systems you mean PS2 and PSP, then yes, you're right.
  • Actually, I have Everyday Shooter on Steam.
  • Nice, I totally baited Rym and Scott to get into what has already devolved into a bunch of fanboys talking about which system has better games ^_^
  • Steam in combination with free, obscure games (such as Dwarf Fortress and Wesnoth) and moddb will fuel my gaming needs for the long term future.

I stand corrected. I didn't know that one went multi-platform.

That, and "by how much is the total experience that games I would otherwise play on a different system diminished or improved." Example: one console provides a much better control system than another.

Computer always wins, unless the game doesn't exist on the computer. Beyond that, the controllers are pretty-much equal, except for the Wii.

Also, every modern PC game is extremely compatible with XBox 360 controllers. Thus, you can actually save money with the 360 by using the same controllers with PC and XBox. That XBox is really becoming just a glorified PC that connects to the TV.

That was an example, but there are other factors than the controls. I agree 100% that computer always wins, but some games are available on multiple consoles but not on the computer.

As much as consoles are becoming like PCs, I'd still probably take the console version of game nine times out of ten. I like being able to relax on a couch while playing a game, and I don't have to worry about getting distracted by things going on in the background.

That being said, about 95% of my gaming time is taken up by a combination of indie gaming, handheld systems and classic consoles, so I'm probably in the minority here.

There is nothing to stop you doing any of these things with a PC instead of a console.
