I just listened to last 4 episodes in a row and... Scott sounds a lot better through Skype. And a lot better in eps Internet ruins and Pax Romana where I guess he had crappier headset. I never realized it before, but he has, for lack of a better word, an annoying voice. Could you maybe go back to using the other headset? Make a poll for it maybe? And I know I sound like an asshole suggesting this, but maybe artificially degrading quality of Scott's part of the recording? At least for one episode where it's recorded via regular equipment, and put it in experimental feed with a poll, which is better? You're still awesome Scott, but good god, you sound a lot better through crappy headset through skype.
Scott, you should really try to finish Giant Robo and you will be able to get a better appreciation of what Giant Robo really is. Also, the music is awesome! When I get home I will post the most awesome entrance ever
I just read the fifth volume of 20th Century Boys, and I definitely have to agree about not getting a payoff. I really hope the next volume has it. Otherwise, this is going to be just like Lost and wind up taking way too long to answer some questions and get to the really good stuff.
Rym and Scott mentioned the Premium Eye of Vogler version of Giant Robo that retaied for $70 when it first came out. DO NOT GET THIS THING!!!!! Then I first ordered it, it was advertised as a Special Edition Volume 1 DVD that came with a model of the Eye of Vogler that could open up to house the series and the Ginrei OAV, although you had to switch the dvd's into these CD gem cases that came with the set in order to do so. So when I received the "Premium Eye" in the mail, I was expecting a really nice, if not lavish, model or statuette of the Eye of Vogler. However, what the "Premium Eye" turned out to be was basically a round plastic bucket with a cap and a decal for the eyelid part. It was the flimsiest, most disappointing purchase I have ever made related to Giant Robo and cetainly not worth the $70 I paid for it. That said, Giant Robo the Animation is well worth $70 dollars if not more and the fact that you can get the entire series for $20 is all the more reason to buy it and enjoy it.

It is true that the eye is a shitty plastic bucket. Paying $70 for it is very stupid. Rym paid much much less for it on sale at Otakon.
Just finished Giant Robo: The Animation after stumbling upon AWO's recommendation a while back and then coincidentally seeing Rym recommend it in this podcast...
I, for one, was hugely disappointed. Everything felt so horribly contrived, especially the main plot reveals. Towards the middle everything started getting so random too with characters being introduced then leaving, then coming back, and some powers affecting people negatively while others could use them without regard...

Oh well. At least it was a shorter series.
It seems your not at the stage yet where you will like all that stuff, get back to it in 10 years :-p

Hmm, I don't think I'll be interested in revisiting the show in my thirties.
I do hope to hear a Final Thoughts though, I'm certainly curious why Rym praised it so much aside from quality animation and a good soundtrack (I thought it was underused and understated though). IMO, the story was mediocre to poor.

Early or mid twenties currently? I'm just saying a lot of shows that the Crew didn't enjoy in their early 20's they are now enjoying in their late 20's and early 30's (Fist of the Northstar and the like).

Often, paradoxically, along with maturity comes a freedom to enjoy dumb shit.

Early twenties. Out of curiosity, what do you think happens in those years that makes these shows (Giant Robo, Fist of the Northstar, etc.) become more enjoyable?

It still blows my mind that Rym legitimately enjoys FotNS. Especially since when we were at Connecticon, when I was walking with Rym and Emily (this is the day they found that Blacksad comic amongst the furry porn) and he legitimately wanted to buy an extremely expensive art collection drawn by the original animators. I could see by the look in the eyes that this was a man who actually loved Fist of the North Star. It was really scary.

No friggin clue, but they do. I'm going through it now. I love Giant Robo, but I can't get anyone to watch it with me.

THe same curse befell my friend while trying to get me to watch Giant Robo the first time. He had a really, really hard time convincing me to watch it because of how he described it. It was not until much later he actually got me to watch it, and I introduced it to Scrym. You'll hear more from me in detail in the Final Thoughts episode if Rym doesn't turn into a shit talker. ; )

...Fail.
If you don't believe me, ask Daryl Surat!
