Teachers managing the Bullies and Bullied

  • Being well-spoken, with no discernible dialect, and not interested in football made me a constant target at the school I went to in Alabama. The bullying was always physical and well-planned, mostly being done before or after school or in areas outside of the school (malls, arcades, etc). Finally, one day while I had come to school early in the morning before class to sign up for the school newspaper. A couple of the regulars that bullied me found out somehow and cornered me at my locker. To this day I don't know what caused me to snap, but as they started beating on me, I laughed manically. Even grabbing my metal locker door and slamming it against my skull multiple times. With blood running down the side of my head and a maniacal look in my eyes, I informed these two that eventually when someone has nothing to lose, they don't care what happens to others around them.

The bullying stopped after this, but at a price. For the remaining two years at school, I was an outcast. Rumors of my psycho nature made the rounds, and to be honest, my reasoning at the time was that if it helped keep people from bothering me, the lack of friends was a justly sacrifice. Thankfully time and maturity has helped those who did not know me understand what I was going through and forged friendships that might have otherwise been lost.

Whoa. I...I don't know what to say. Um, good for you? No, that's not right, is it? Ugh. I hope you didn't need stitches.
