It is true that you can already get it, but as you said, you have to do some trickery. I have Steam mostly running on my Mac using CrossOver Games, but it doesn't run perfectly. I just want to be able to natively run it on Snow Leopard, which is exactly what we're getting.
  • You are right about it being trickery ive got, and sorry if i spell it wrong ubunto it took me like a 45 minets to put it on.

    Wine is not an emulator.
  • what is it then?

    Wine
    Is
    Not an
    Emulator

It's a clean-room implementation of the Windows API.

    It almost works, too.

Almost, but not well enough to play games. Crossover worked better, but again, not good enough to play games.
  • Linux Steam

    After all these years.
  • Whoa. Awesome.

I guess it makes perfect sense for them to make a Linux version if they're doing a Mac version, but that makes it no less surprising. But this is super smart on Valve's part. Just like with the Mac version, they're tapping a completely untapped market. It would also be a great push for the Linux community because gaming is one of the biggest reasons why people who might normally switch over to Linux full time don't.
  • Valve is made of pure win.
  • Valve is made of pure win printing money.
  • money = win
  • The Mac includes no support for joysticks or any other gaming peripherals and such. Try connecting a standard USB gamepad to your Mac and see what happens. At least Linux will try to handle the joystick the best it can with the available open source drivers. Windows has a whole joystick/gamepad suite in the control panel.
I heard you guys mention this on a show recently and it confused me. I have a Logitech USB gamepad that works just fine in Snes9x on my MacBook Pro. Now it could be that OSX does not play nicely with USB joysticks/gamepads, but if so then Snes9x is smart enough to do the heavy lifting. While the OS should be making this easy, if it isn't then my experience (an admittedly small sample size) tells me that it is possible for the application (or game) to go ahead and pick up the slack.
