  • Don't tell my wife, but the end of Forrest Gump gets me every time:

You died on a Saturday morning. And I had you placed here under our tree. And I had that house of your father's bulldozed to the ground. Momma always said dyin' was a part of life. I sure wish it wasn't. Little Forrest, he's doing just fine. About to start school again soon. I make his breakfast, lunch, and dinner every day. I make sure he combs his hair and brushes his teeth every day. Teaching him how to play ping-pong. He's really good. We fish a lot. And every night, we read a book. He's so smart, Jenny. You'd be so proud of him. I am. He, uh, wrote a letter, and he says I can't read it. I'm not supposed to, so I'll just leave it here for you. Jenny, I don't know if Momma was right or if, if it's Lieutenant Dan. I don't know if we each have a destiny, or if we're all just floating around accidental-like on a breeze, but I, I think maybe it's both. Maybe both is happening at the same time. I miss you, Jenny. If there's anything you need, I won't be far away.

  • Every time. Like fucking clockwork.

Man, fuck. You're right. That's another girly tears movie for me, though.

It's been too long since I last saw that movie. I should fix that.

You both are right. Hell, even when I watched the movie, I couldn't make Forrest Gump jokes/impressions anymore.

  • I agree with many of the selections so far. I would also put forth The Pursuit of Happyness. Definitely one of my favorite inspirational stories ever.

That movie was fantastic and never fails at making me cry like a baby.
  • Shit, I just realized I posted the rest of my post in the wrong thread. >_>
  • The scene at the end of The Life Aquatic, when Steve Zissou just goes, "Yeah, it's pretty good isn't it. I wonder if it remembers me?" and starts crying. Gets me every time.
  • Hogfather
  • In What Dreams May Come, when Chris stays with Annie in her personal hell area, after being told it's basically a lost cause. I almost couldn't watch it at school.
  • Cool Runnings, every dam time when they crash at the end and then they pick it up and walk to the line.

Not a movie, but episode five of Battlestar Galactica:

Apollo: (asking if Adama would search the moon for him like he did for Starbuck [wasting 46% of the Fleet's fuel reserve before giving up]) "And if it were me down there instead?"
Adama: "You don't have to ask that."
    Apollo: "You sure?"
Adama: "If it were you, we would never leave."

  • The end of The Green Mile.
  • The end of Braveheart, although it may not have the same effect anymore for some who cannot enjoy the movie b/c of Mel Gibson.

It's a good thing that they had some guy who looked just like Mel Gibson in that movie and it didn't actually star him.

I can't understand why Mel Gibson is famous, they just used look a likes in all those movies we loved.
  • This is why it's better to just not know who famous people are. I know who Melvin Gibstein is, but still. It can really help remove meta that might take you out of the movie.
  • Yeah.. like Waitress. Spoiler: The directress, who also played a role, was murdered before she could see her film become popular.

The meta can add so much to the movie though! Like in Shutter Island, where many of the actors who play characters that Leo's character perceives as the antagonists are actors who typically play villain roles, so the twist hits even harder.

Clarification: The twist in Shutter Island is that all of the doctors on the island are trying to help Leo snap out of an alternate personality he's taken on. They aren't really antagonists at all.

  • Thing is, is that just the director being lazy?
  • I am eternally grateful for my ability to completely lose myself in a movie. I can come in knowing I hate certain actors, or even with full knowledge of some critical spoiler, yet still get sucked in and wind up forgetting that stuff.

    I thought it was clever.

It's like that magical traveling pants and yo-yos movie, but for bros!
  • I recently watched the first pokemon movie, Mewtwo Strikes Back. In addition to crying of laughter multiple times, I cried twice from emotion. Once when clone pikachu is slapping regular pikachu, and the regular one is just standing there, taking it. And again, when pikachu is shocking stone Ash over and over and all the pokemon stop fighting to watch.
  • How to cry like a man: As told by the guy with a pony avatar.

    Tell me about it!
Tears of the Sun can cause the odd man tear as can Of Mice and Men. All this pales in comparison to DudeBros 4; Death of DudeBros.

I will admit to tears for this, regardless of whether or not they are man-tears.
