At least for today I can say that I read about astrophysics on the crapper.
Oh yeah, and "A Universe from Nothing" by Lawrence M. Krauss is an excellent book that you should buy and read. However, you could also watch the short version since this is the first book, at least to my knowledge, that is based on a YouTube video.
Finished The Girl Who Played With Fire. Honestly the writing in the books isn't tip top but most of the time the dialogue holds up pretty well and the stories remind me of more mature Phoenix Wright stories. They got some thing that happens that you don't really see coming, then you realize it.
I've been reading a ton of Asimov. Just finished Nightfall, a collection including the titular story, and have been reading I, Robot as well. I think next I am going to try some Clarke with Rendezvous with Rama. Gosh, dad, thanks for having great taste in Science Fiction, and lending me all of these. I also just read The Daughter of Time, which is a detective story where a policeman bedridden in the hospital gets really into the story of Richard III, and works with a historian to find out what really happened to his nephews in the tower.
Personally, I don't know if Richard did do it or not, but seriously, I think he was a way better king than people give him credit for. They always think of evil Shakespeare hunchbacks, whereas he was actually a pretty liberal and intelligent king. Fucking Tudors.
I just started reading The Chronicles of Amber by Roger Zelazny because I was cast to play one of the characters in a Machinama adaptation. It's not bad, so far. Thing is, it's the first real book I've read in a while. Every other book I've read over the past two years has been on my nook tablet or kindle. It's weird not being able to just carry the book around with me. It's kinda inconvenient.

Such awesome books, these. I, Robot is one of my absolute favorite books ever. What's your favorite story from it?
I will let you know my favorite after I finish. There may be some awesome yet to come. I really like Roger Zelazny. My favorite short story of his is "Comes Now the Power." That's one of the few things that can make me cry on cue. edit: Oh hey, you can read it here!

I should also read some of the Amber books at some point. Considering that I've played for about a year in a Amber tabletop rpg campaign.
Who said that 1Q84 was super long? I've only been reading it for two days and my Kindle already says 13%. That means it should take less than two weeks.

Yeah. I blew threw the entire first book under a week, and I'm already halfway though the entire thing.
Interestingly, the story has reached what would be the end of a typical work like this... at about the halfway point.

Sentence about something. Another sentence about something. Holy fucking batshit crazy revelation. Back to normal sentences.
I can't count how many times I've been reading, then backed up like "wait, what? Really?" or "wait, isn't that the same guys from that other thing?!" ;^)
For the first time in my life I wish I had taken physical notes instead of mental ones for the purposes of the episode.
You mean you never type notes up when you discuss something on the show? I always thought you did. ...wish I head that ability when Li_Akahi and I do our show...

Finally finished Mockingjay, thus bringing the trilogy to a close. I actually ended up liking it more than Catching Fire, since that book felt really disjointed and pointless up until the last third when things started progressing again. I also think the ending of the third book tied things up decently, though it could've been better. I wasn't disappointed with it like I've heard from other people.
Going to start reading 1Q84 next. My plan is to try to keep up with the current book club books, and then start going back into the archives and read what I haven't yet (which is most of them).
I think the reading burnout that happened to me after college has finally ended. It feels like I've read more books in the last year than I did in the previous three. Of course, it could also be because my girlfriend is a reading nut, so she's influencing my decisions.
Anybody read the Wool books by Hugh Howey? Just finished the omnibus edition and have to say it's definitely one of the best self-published books in the kindle store at the moment.
Also Ridley & Tony Scott's company bought the film rights - though it might never make it to the screen, I'm wondering if anybody had thoughts on that as well if they've read.
Does 1Q84 get any better? It is really slow so far, seems to be picking up steam but if it takes another 10 chapters to get anywhere I'm gonna go crazy. I'm halfway tempted to just stop because of the terrible writing.

What do you consider "good" writing?
Seriously. 1Q84 will probably see Murakami to at least a nomination for the Nobel Prize for Literature. He's a master of his craft.
Can't follow the meta, the buildup, and the symbolism? Go read Twilight. Crazy shit starts in the first chapter of 1Q84, but it takes a couple chapters to realize how fucking crazy it really is.

(I'm digging it).
