Finally started reading The Great Gatsby. I'm about a quarter of the way through right now. Started actually reading Characteristics of Games after only getting through the first few pages then getting distracted when I first received it.
After these I plan on "reading" From Hell which I had received from my brother for Christmas.

Great Gatsby was a very quick read. I didn't realize how short it was since I read the digital edition. When I looked down after a few pages and saw the percentage I was very surprised.
From Hell might as well be fucking Ulysses. Hardest book to finish I have ever read. I could read the OED faster than I could read From Hell.
Oh mans, I started reading Gun Machine by Warren Ellis. It's even better than the trailer.
It's on my wish list. Waiting for a softer cover.
My ebook's cover is so soft it's practically nonexistant!
Right now I'm about halfway through Misquoting Jesus (which I was turned on to by Luke, if I recall correctly). I also finished The Wave, which is an interesting retelling of the high school social experiment that was done in the 70s (The German movie of the same name is also quite good).
Misquoting Jesus is pretty good. Ehrman published the scholarly research work that that book was based on called The Orthodox Corruption of Scripture. I've yet to read it, but it's on my big pile of books.

...wow I remember watching that movie in High School.

Currently I'm reading The Believing Brain by Michael Shermer, and enjoying it for the most part. When it got to the part where it somewhat promotes Ayn Rand, I kind of shrugged it off.
Just read the first book in the Vorkosigan Saga last night. It was a really fun read. Basically space opera with a Tsarist/Prussian aristocracy as the bad guys.
Wrapped up Thief of Swords, started off not liking it so much but really enjoyed it by the end. My only concern is that it will go all "gritty" as it goes on to show how super cereal it is.
Some time ago, I stated that I would read Norwegian Wood, that didnt happen because I forgot about it. Instead I read another Murakami novel: South of the Border, West of the Sun. It was okay, nothing I'd read again, but I found it to be a worthwhile and well-written coming-of-age/romance novel. I'll get to more Murakami someday.
For now, in preparation for a hardboiled detective/film noir script I am writing with a friend, we are trying to familiarize ourselves with the genre through various pieces of literature and films. I started my reading with the much lauded Dashiell Hammett detective novel, Red Harvest. Within a few pages, I was hooked like a fish out of water and I am voraciously reading it.
Finally finished up The Name of the Wind a couple weeks ago, and just blasted through The Hitchhiker's Guide in a few days (which is very quick for me). Thinking my next book will be another classic I never read in school, 1984. Also going to be reading Characteristics of Games on the side.
I recently finished Ready Player One by Ernest Cline. It was a fairly quick read, and I enjoyed it very much. I plan on getting the audio book (read by Wil Wheaton) soon for another go through. Ro has Cloud Atlas for Kindle, which I am going to try reading next.
I'm about halfway through great gatsby, I dig it so far. Like Scott said it's a lot shorter than I thought, I've been reading on the bus a couple rides ~25 minutes total and kindle says I'm 45% done.
Finally finished the Thousand Fold Thought. Bit up in the air at the moment as I was expecting it to wrap things up but I feel at a loose end. Also is there no end to the suffering that Akka goes though? Esmi really needs to just listen to the dude and stay with him.

Time for some White Luck!
I'm going to wait for the second trilogy to be completed and then read all three at once.
These novels are so dense, I would like to read them as if they were one long story.

Ordered it five minuets after I finished.

Read them through now, and just re-read through them when the second trilogy is done. You'll pick up things you missed the first time.
Im slightly glad that they are not all out. I had to take a year between finishing The Warrior Prophet and starting The Thousand Fold Thought. That shit is so good but heavy as hell. I have to think more reading that then I do with most other pleasure reading. That and I just want Akka to be happy.
Me too! It wasn't what I expected, but in a good way. I'm planning on picking up the first of the next trilogy at some point, probably when I can get all three at once.
In related news I finished up the 4th book in "The War Against the Chtorr". The alien ecosystem the author is building is really interesting conceptually, but i'm really sick of having to slog my way through his terrible character writing to get to it.
Go ahead and read the first two of the next series now. While The Judging Eye ends on a pretty amazing but thus unsatisfying cliffhanger, The White Luck Warrior is a deeply satisfying book. It ends on a nice plateau.

Also, it's funny you mention slogs...
It wasn't more of a slog, more intense than anything. Bakker did a really good job of making me feel for the characters and what happened to them. It was cool seeing someone work the crusades in so well, if it was a bit obvious. The thing is it was like trying to drink a pint of pudding wine. Yes it possible but it makes you feel like shit and you don't really appreciate it. If you have it in small doses and at the right time then it is the best thing in the world.
Im looking forward to the next ones, the series has been grade A so far.
Last night I finished reading the Minding Tomorrow trilogy by Luke Burrage. All three books were nice, light reads with a lot of interesting ideas. Like a lot of people on Goodreads, I felt that the middle book was not as interesting as the other two, but on the whole I enjoyed the story and thought it ended at a good place.
Not sure where I'm going to go from here. I suppose I should read the current book club book, but I kind of want to switch away from sci-fi and fantasy for a bit.
