I was curious about how Diaspora worked exactly, so I installed a so called "seed" on my web server. If any of you want to see how it is, be my guest to sign-up and test it. But be warned, this is only a preview and I'm probably not going to host this for a very long time, except if enough people express interest.
Have fun:

Interesting read, however a good deal of it was with the caveat of "I don't use RoR, but I'm pretty sure this isn't secure".
For those who haven't read it yet
- It becomes incredibly easy for anyone to get an account and use it, especially if they don't know what a "seed" is
- Its feature set is comparable to Facebook's and at least one "killer app" feature to make people switch other than privacy
- They fix all these security holes everyone's going on about
I'm not particularly optimistic about any of those.Besides, I've taken my project away from a DF type clone to a different direction. Think Action RPG (Gauntlet) on a massive scale with procedurally generated content.
Never mind.
