I'm reviewing my steam games and I'll call this thread what I want.

edited November 2010 in Video Games
"I have too many steam games thread"

So it's known that I am a game hoarder and now in the digital age with the advent of Steam I have collected a rather large collection of steam games (mainly from sales). So I'm going to set out to write a paragraph on each of the games I have one steam (and maybe a few that I play outside of steam) and whether they might be worth the few dollars I paid for them. (Listed next to some games is the amount of time I played them but that is no where near accurate times because games like Commander Keen don't register and Civ IV I leave open for weeks.)

I'll edit and add to my list as I play and think about the games on the list. (and acquire more steam games)

This is a fun arcade aero shooter. It's lots of fun and is surprisingly balanced for the amount of aircraft you can unlock and use. Each aircraft has a different set of weapons, speed, health and maneuverability. The games are standard fair multiplayer be it defend your base or aerial-soccer. I've found I've really enjoyed playing this game in 15 minute chucks and baring some other quick game experience this game will probably fill that niche for me for a while. I got this in the indie flyer pack for 5 dollars and this game was worth the 5 dollars on it's own. Definitely interested in what the other airplanes bring to the game as I only have two unlocked at this time.

This would probably be my game of the year in 2009. No Batman game at this point has captured the feel and tone of Batman as well as this game has. From the boss fights to the trippy scarecrow sequences to the Joker commentating through the whole game. This game nails the subject matter. I believe I got this as part of an Eidos pack with like 14 games for 50 bucks and it was worth the price of the entire package. I highly recommend this. At 30 dollars it's still a steal however I'm sure it will be on sale on a future steam sale or when the sequel comes out.

This game is totally worth the $9.99 that it is listed on steam but i picked it up for 10 dollars with the mentally challenged Bionic Commando (above this title). This game is everything the original game is and a whole lot more in some ways it's harder then the original. The challenge modes add hours of game play and I haven't played the co-op version but I'm sure it's great (all co-op is). I've found the game harder then the original while at the same time it provides you with more tools to deal with very familiar challenges. I find the addition of bosses to be sometimes frustrating to run out of lives and have to start the board over, but that hearkens back to a meaner age of gaming. I've still yet to beat this game (I'm on the last 3 levels) and I'll be coming back to this soon to finish it off. I recommend playing this with a game pad.

Any game where you get a sniper rifle and can strafe jump while zoned in has a special place in my heart. The only problem is you will get a head shot only to find it has done 20 points of damage to a 500 hit point creature. Still with 2 to 4 friends running/driving around this world it can be a lot of fun. A great FPS/RPG hybrid the game has a lot of graphical style and while the humor is that of a 12 year olds it still can be pretty entertaining. The game is short on plot but you probably won't mine. The game can be a bit repetitive running through it without friends and the quests don't always have the most variety to them. Still I have had a lot of fun with this game and look forward to finishing it sometime with Rubin.

  • Wouldn't "Steam Reviews" be a better title. It gets across the necessary information.

It should have the word "game" in there still for seachability.
  • Steam is already going to narrow it down enough.

Err no, Steam is too narrow. These games are available other places than Steam, y'know.
  • I hereby declair the longest thread title competition open.

Actually the first time I made the title it was one character too long to be accepted :-p

  • Does Steam not have a feature for reviewing your games? I've never looked, but if there is such a thing it would be the best place to put them.
  • They in fact just added that feature, but I'll use the forum just for the ridicule.

  • Since I need to get into the reviewing scene for a website I will both contribute to the cause and shamefully plug myself at the same time!

I will only list games I have reviewed here, other games can be added later.

I found that the ability to create your own character and actually use them was sorely lacking, and that some of the levels were almost impossible regardless of the team you put together.

Ah, I went with the standard heroes and found the game to be pretty easy... Maybe you just suck at creating heroes.

Had to cut the list to make it fit.

Mass Effect 40.8 hrs on record

Mass Effect 2 35.6 hrs on record
Mass Effect 2 is a shining example of the modern American action RPG. It streamlines most of the BS from the first game while still focusing on the decision making and fun combat that has become a telltale trait of Biowares RPG's. While the first game focused on world building the second game just dives right into the action. Many of the choices you made in the first game carry on into the second and you really do miss something if you don't play the first game before playing this one. That said it's a 100% improvement on the first game with many extremely interesting characters.

I played about an hour of this so far. It's a strange "retro" game where the game play involves being able to jump to the ceiling and as you expect this game gets extremely disorienting. The beginning area does not show how wide open the game becomes. So far it's been a frustrating blast to play. It's one of those games were you just slightly touch a spike and you die. Fortunately continue spots are litters around the board so you won't have to redo much. Though the game play and difficulty definitely hearken back to an old school era. If you want to test your reaction skills and feel like you are playing a VERY sophisticated Atari game this is your game and at 5 dollars it's worth it. Though if you find yourself cursing my name for getting the game I wouldn't be surprised.
